Department of Kinesiology
The Department of Kinesiology enthusiastically supports and enhances the University’s vision and mission and is home to more than 190 undergraduate and graduate students studying in one of our program offerings. We offer the Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology (interest areas in Generalist, Personal Trainer or Teacher Certification), the Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training and the Master of Education degree in Sport and Wellness Leadership. Undergraduate students majoring in other programs of study may complement their study with minors in Kinesiology or Recreation. In addition, all HPU students complete three semester hours of lecture and activity courses designed for study and practice of lifelong movement and health promotion. These broad experiences can enable the pursuit of skiing in Colorado, surfing in California, hiking in the Rockies and a host of sports skill and recreational/adventure activities. In addition, The Department provides leadership to the campus community’s wellness initiatives.
Vision Statement

Why choose HPU for your degree in ESS or Athletic Training?
The People
Your HPU classes will be led by Christian faculty who have more than 140 combined years of teaching/professional experience. Your classmates share the same passion as you for recreational activity, fitness and sports health. Join the more than 190 KIN/athletic training majors and minors who study hard and play hard. You, too, can become an award-winning teacher, legendary coach, college professor, successful fitness center entrepreneur, leader of outdoor adventure programs or athletic trainer for an NFL team.
The places
HPU’s Elliston-Cassle Wellness Center is home to the department’s faculty and students and serves as the center of activity participation for the campus. In addition to the Wellness Center’s more than 25,000 square-feet of classrooms, labs and recreational spaces, students also learn in a variety of campus recreational settings, as well as Lake Brownwood, the terrain of the Rockies, the ski slopes of Colorado and the surf of the Pacific beaches.
The programs
Never has the interest in fitness promotion, wellness or sport health been of greater importance to society. The majors in HPU’s KIN and athletic training degree programs prepare future leaders in fitness/wellness leadership, sport leadership, school and non-school teaching, recreational leadership, and athletic training in school or hospital settings.
